School of Law holds 2020 “Rule of Law and Contemporary China” Online Summer Camp

Jilin University School of Law successfully held 2020 “Rule of Law and Contemporary China” Summer Camp from 13 to 17 July. Affected by the pandemic, the summer camp was taken online with over 300 participants.



The summer camp commenced on the afternoon of 13 July. The attendees include Prof.He Zhipeng, dean and PhD supervisor of international law; Prof.Ma Xinyan, chairman of Sub-committee of Academic Degree Evaluation and PhD supervisor of civil law; Prof.Ren Xirong, deputy dean and PhD supervisor of constitutional law and administrative law; Xu Jie, deputy Secretary of CPC Committee at Law School; Prof.Xu Weidong, member of Sub-committee of Academic Degree Evaluation and PhD supervisor of commercial law; Prof.Li Jianhua, member of Sub-committee of Academic Degree Evaluation and PhD supervisor of civil law; Qi Ming, deputy director of JM Education Center and PhD supervisor of commercial law; Prof.Li Haiping, PhD supervisor of constitutional law and administrative law; Prof. Wang Yanzhi, PhD supervisor of international law; Prof.Hou Xuebin, PhD supervisor of Jurisprudence; Prof.Liu Xiaolin, PhD supervisor of legal history; associate professor Dong Wenjun of economic law; associate professor Xie Dengke, PhD supervisor of procedure law; associate professor Wang Guozhu, PhD supervisor of intellectual property law; associate professor Wang Junming of criminal law; associate professor Wang Xiaogang of environmental and resources protection law; Zhang Shu, director of Graduate Teaching Office, and volunteers. Zhang Shu presided over the opening ceremony.


Dean He Zhipeng pointed out the objectives of this summer camp. On one hand, it promotes researches on the relationship between the rule of law and contemporary China, and discusses how to apply the theory of the rule of law to the development of contemporary China. On the other hand, it aims to provide opportunities for students to further their studies in Jilin University School of Law. Combined with his own experience of studying and working in Law School, Prof.He Zhipeng gave comprehensive introduction to the history of Law School. He told the story about Law School’s perseverance in prosperity and in adversity. Endeavors and reflections of generations of Law School have contributed to the glory today. In the end, he extended his sincere welcome for the participants to study in Jilin University School of Law.




Representatives from each teaching department made detailed introduction to the respective disciplines, which covers Juris Master education, jurisprudence, legal history, constitutional law and administrative law, criminal law, civil law, commercial law, procedure law, economic law, environmental and resources protection law, international law, and intellectual property law.




To conclude the opening ceremony, Zhang Shu encourages the participants to seize the opportunity and fully devoted to the studies and interviews. She wishes the students to achieve good results and shoulder the responsibility of the rule of law in China.


The participants are divided into 13 groups for online interviews on 14 and 15 July. The interviews are taken online and target at assessments of students’ academic proficiency, comprehensive quality and research proposal report. To ensure the fairness of the tests, ID identification and facial recognition are applied. In addition, the interviewers are determined through random drawing on each morning.


On 16 July, Prof.Li Yongjun, delivered a lecture on National Resources and Cultural Dimensions of the Subjectivity of Chinese Rule of Law. He elaborated on the relationship between cultural tradition and the modern rule of law and explained traditional culture’s contribution to enforcing the rule of law in China. In the afternoon, Prof.Tian Hongyun lectured on the topic of Cultivation of Legal Thinking. She approached from the concept of research and the reason of conducting research to illustrate the significance of thinking and questioning. Prof.Tian also gave advice about writing and presenting research proposals, which covers the definition, composition, presentation and delivery of a research report. Students are actively engaged and benefited from the lectures.



This summer camp is a platform for mutual understanding, because participants are able to further understand the culture of Jilin University School of Law, at the same time, Law School also evaluates the quality of each participant.
