On June 3, Professor Sue Westwood, Dean of York Law School, University of York, and Professor TT Arvind, former Dean of York Law School, paid a visit to Jilin University. Professor Cai Lidong, Executive Vice‑President of Jilin University, met with the delegation.

On behalf of Jilin University, Professor Cai Lidong extended a warm welcome to Professor Sue Westwood and the visiting delegation. He introduced Jilin University’s institutional characteristics and its important status within Northeast China. He noted that advancing institutional internationalisation constitutes a core priority for Jilin University, and the United Kingdom represents a key partner for the University’s international‑cooperation agenda. He spoke positively about British universities’ rigorous teaching traditions, emphasis on critical reflection, and problem‑driven legal‑education philosophy. He observed that York Law School embraces an international vision and prioritises practical‑oriented legal training; exchanges between the two law schools will actively advance teaching and research development at Jilin University School of Law. Professor Cai expressed his hope that this visit would enable the University of York team to gain first‑hand insight into Jilin University’s teaching environment and educational strengths, so as to consolidate the cooperative foundation shared by both institutions.

Professor Sue Westwood thanked Jilin University for its gracious hospitality. She pointed out that internationalisation lies at the heart of the University of York’s educational mission, and Chinese higher‑education institutions are vital transnational‑education partners for UK universities. Legal education cannot develop in isolation; collaborative partnership is indispensable. Promoting global‑scale legal cooperation is a core development strategy for York Law School. She highlighted broad cooperative potential between York Law School and Jilin University School of Law, and voiced expectations for expanded practical collaboration such as joint talent‑cultivation programmes.

Relevant administrators from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and Jilin University School of Law attended the meeting.
