From June 3 to 5, Professor Sue Westwood, Dean of York Law School, University of York, together with Professor TT Arvind, former Dean of York Law School, visited Jilin University School of Law. The two sides held a range of exchange activities centring on the internationalisation of legal education, foreign‑related legal‑talent training and academic cooperation.

During the visit, the York Law School delegation held consultations with relevant administrators from the Undergraduate School, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Jilin University School of Law. Both sides engaged in in‑depth exchanges covering undergraduate legal education, development of internationalised curricula, and prospective future‑cooperation frameworks.

Following the round‑table discussion, Professor Sue Westwood delivered a public lecture for faculty and students titled Rethinking Legal Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. Her lecture explored how legal education can respond to technological disruption, and how to foster students’ critical‑thinking capacity and practical problem‑solving skills amid artificial‑intelligence development. The talk triggered thoughtful reflections among the audience.

In the student presentation segment, four undergraduate law students — Bai Yichun, Feng Qianyi, Li Enyu and Jing Xiyue — gave English‑language presentations on varied topics: “An Interpretation of the U.S. Artificial‑Intelligence Proliferation Export‑Control Framework”, “A Study on the Regulation of Directors’ Remuneration in the United Kingdom”, “Sharing Experiences from International Moot Court Competitions”, and “Anchoring Legal Changes: Focusing on Career Planning”. Their presentations spanned AI export controls, British corporate governance, international moot‑court practice and career pathways for international‑law practitioners, demonstrating law students’ global perspectives, professional competence and English‑language proficiency.
Additionally, the visiting delegation toured Jilin University School of Law’s School History Museum, library and moot‑court classrooms. They gained detailed knowledge of the School’s developmental history, discipline building, academic resources and practical‑teaching infrastructure. The School History Museum showcases Jilin University School of Law’s educational heritage, academic legacy and talent‑cultivation achievements. The library and teaching venues reflect the School’s solid foundation in legal‑academic training and practical‑skill teaching. Delegation members highly commended the School’s profound historical heritage, well‑equipped teaching facilities and distinctive educational features.

This visit strengthened mutual understanding between Jilin University School of Law and York Law School, University of York. It lays a solid foundation for future expanded practical cooperation including student exchanges, faculty visits and joint academic research.
